Wedding trends for Spring 2004 have seemed to move away from many of the old standards that we have seen in the wedding industry for years. Below are some of the hottest trends for Spring 2004:

Attire: Wedding attire is changing for spring 2004

  • Bride – There are two styles emerging as trend front-runners. One is a simple cut dress that looks almost rather plain – meaning no beads, crystals or appliques - but is dressed up with one or two ornate pieces such as a pretty shawl, a ribbon choker or a large ornate crystal brooch. Another style that will be popular for Spring 2004 is the mermaid style dress.
  • Bridesmaids – Colors that are popular for spring are soft pinks, sage greens and periwinkles.

Cakes: BIG is in! Wedding cakes that are at least 4 tiers or more in size are becoming the hottest new trend. Clean and simple is the way to go – Stick with classic or contemporary designs with only one or two color accents or a cake that is entirely a single color.

Ceremony: A new trend for the wedding ceremony is for the bride and groom to face the their guests during the exchange of vows. Also plan on seeing more and more pets involved in the marriage ceremony, as either ring bearers or being walked down the aisle with the couple.

Favors: Forget those monogrammed napkins and matchbooks that were popular 20 years ago – couples are looking for more unique and useful favors. Many brides are making their own favors for a more personal touch or are something that reflect the personality or interests of the bridal couple. If the bride and groom are peaceful, calm people, you can offer homemade candles or fresh bamboo shoots. Are the couple heavily into physical fitness? Why not offer bottled water with personalized labels. Does the couple love to play cards? Have personalized playing cards printed.

    Flowers: Several changes are emerging:
  • Bouquets are moving from the huge teardrop style to smaller, round-shaped, hand-tied bouquets with long, trailing ribbons.
  • Unconventional bouquet accents are gaining popularity; these items include things like crystals, rhinestones, feathers, and berries.
  • Corsages for mothers, mother in laws, etc. are making way for small handheld posies; often they are just a smaller version of the brides’ bouquet.
  • Fresh flowers are in; silk flowers are out.

    Reception:
  • Guestbook – instead of the traditional guest book, couple’s will matte and frame their engagement photo then place it on an easel by the reception entrance. Guests are to sign the matting on the photo instead of the traditional guestbook.
  • Candles – stack several candles on cake tiers for an interesting centerpiece display. Use candles that are softly scented or no-scent candles if you are worried about guests with allergies.
  • Centerpieces – the hottest trend in centerpieces to make them all different. Use the same flowers or color tones, just make them different sizes and shapes. This gives your reception room a more interesting and unique look.
  • Head table – rather than a traditional head table, more and more couples are sitting at a table for two, usually up on a riser so the guests can see them better.
