With so many types of wedding gowns on the market, you might not be sure what the different types, or silhouettes, of wedding gowns are. We have put together a list of the different types of wedding gowns that are popular today, as well as a picture and short description of each.

A-Line Style Dress Ballgown Style Dress
A-LINE
A dress that doesn't have a defined waistline. It fits through the torso and then the skirt flares out from the waist.
BALLGOWN
This is also known as a traditional wedding dress (think Cinderella). Ballgowns have very full skirts that gather at the natural waistline.
Empire Style Dress Princess Style Dress
EMPIRE
This particular style, there is no defined waistline. Instead, the skirt will start under the bustline and will flow into an A-Line style.
PRINCESS
Princess and A-Line gowns are very similar, but they do have a slight difference. Princess gowns has noticeable verticle panels, which the A-line does not.
Sheath Style Dress
SHEATH
This type of gown is a straight, very form-fitting gown.
