  UNITY CANDLE SELECTIONS

The Unity Candle is like a "mini-ceremony" during the wedding ceremony that has grown in popularity during the past few years. The Unity Candle is a 3-piece set, with a large, often decorative candle in the center, surrounded by 2 taper candles on either side. The Bride and Groom light the large candle with the two smaller taper candles during their wedding ceremony. The tapers can be lit by the families of the bride and groom, the Mothers, a specially appointed person, or by the officiant, and usually before the wedding ceremony itself begins. Soft, romantic music of any kind is often played during this time.

The tapers often signifies the individuality of the Bride and Groom; when the larger candle is lit with the tapers, they are signifying the joining together of their lives into one. The tapers can also stand for the Bride's and Groom's families.

The Unity Candle Ceremony is non-denominational, which means it has no religious significance. This makes it a popular choice for both religious and non-religious ceremonies alike.

One thing to keep in mind; many houses of worship may not allow this ceremony, so if you have your heart set on it, you may need to check with the appropriate people to see if this is allowed.
